East Jefferson General Hospital

Overview

Opening on Valentine's Day, 1971, East Jefferson General Hospital started as a 250-bed facility with almost 250 physicians serving the newly burgeoning suburbs of Jefferson Parish. From the beginning, the hospital was to be a not-for-profit community hospital with a board of directors comprised of representatives from the community's financial, educational, civic, and business community. Today, EJGH stands as a state-of-the-art hospital with more than 420 beds. Still a community hospital with a board comprised of representatives throughout the community, our patients are served by a staff of more than 2,800 team members and more than 650 physicians.

Awards

Magnet Status

In 2002, EJGH became the first hospital in Louisiana to earn the prestigious Magnet Status for nursing excellence. In 2006, EJGH was one of only a handful of hospitals able to raise their standards high enough to earn the distinction of being renewed as a Nurse Magnet Hospital.  In 2012, EJGH for the third consecutive term attained Magnet recognition as part of the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Magnet Recognition Program.

American Heart Association Gold Performance Achievement Award

The American Heart Association (AHA) has awarded East Jefferson General Hospital the Heart Failure Gold Performance Achievement Award, the highest award possible, for the third consecutive year (2009 – 2011). The Heart Failure Award is part of the AHA's Get with the Guidelines Program and signifies that institutions receiving the award have met the aggressive goals set forth by the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology.

Gold Seal For Stroke Care

East Jefferson General Hospital (EJGH) is proud to announce that it has earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval for certification as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center. This distinction signifies that EJGH has implemented the stringent, national guidelines needed for high-level stroke care. This honor also follows an intensive site visit and review by a panel of commission experts.

American College of Radiology Accreditation

This designation signifies higher quality of care for radiology oncology programs. East Jefferson General Hospital is the first facility in the region to earn ACR accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR). The accreditation program was established in 1986 as the extension of the Patterns of Care Study (PCS) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute and is administered by the American College of Radiology. ACR accreditation is widely recognized as a benchmark measure of quality care.
