Job Description

This position is accountable to evaluate and treat all patients in the Rehabilitation Center who are referred for psychological services. This includes communication with physicians and other health care personnel to assist in providing quality patient care. This position serves as a resource for other clinicians in the areas of cognition, behavior, and psychology. This position serves the following age categories: adolescent, adult, and geriatric. .

This position delivers excellent customer service utilizing Relationship Based Care to advocate for safety, patient preferences, and optimal communication through partnering with patients/families and colleagues, including all internal and external customers.

MAJOR WORK ACTIVITIES (MWAS):

o Completes patient evaluations and testing (30%)
o Accurately selects and performs appropriate evaluations and tests.
o Synthesizes all information to make appropriate recommendations.
o Focuses on priority problems for optimal intervention.
o Provides thorough and effective patient/family/caregiver education during and after evaluation and/or testing as appropriate.

o Provides treatment/counseling (25%)
o Plans and implements treatment/therapy in a manner to achieve patient goals.
o Selects and performs targeted interventions to promote optimal effectiveness and efficiency for patient treatment.
o Modifies treatment in response to changes in patient status, environment, & discharge plan appropriately.
o Recognizes need for and initiates discharge from services.
o Recommends and initiates referral for additional therapy services as needed.
o Provides effective and thorough patient/family/caregiver education throughout the patients program.
o Serves as a resource to other healthcare professionals in areas of cognition, behavior, and/or psychology.
o Leads development, monitoring and modification of patients cognitive, psychological or behavioral treatment plan.
o Teaches coping class.

o Time Management (10%)
o Maintains individual productivity at standard.
o Initiates and follows through on problem solving with supervisor to increase productivity.
o Manages caseload and other work to maximize efficiency and for maximal impact on patient care.
o Proactively identifies need to change schedule throughout day to accommodate new priorities.
o Recognizes significant changes in individual workload and initiates action to adjust.
o Recognizes team workload and proactively offers/seeks assistance to assure timely completion of teams work and achievement of department and organizational goals.
o Plans therapy sessions to maximize outcomes.

o Documentation and Charging (10%)
o Supports safe, appropriate, effective and efficient patient care by providing accurate, thorough and timely documentation that consistently meets departmental requirements.
o Consistently documents with a focus on specific details to assure timely, optimal progression of patients.
o Charges appropriately for treatment provided.
o Completes charges in a timely manner.
o Seeks out information on psychology documentation and charging requirements and trends. Applies knowledge for continuous improvement in clinical practice.

o Professional Communication (10%)
o Communicates positively and effectively with all members of the healthcare team to support exceptional patient care.
o Communicates effectively with department leadership.
o Teaches in a manner that is proactive. Shares knowledge to improve the performance of others and to improve patient care.

Clinical practice development (15)
o Seeks constructive feedback regarding his/her practice and uses this feedback to make practice changes.
o Assists with orientation and training of new staff, demonstrates an ongoing commitment to improve the performance and skill of co-workers.
o Demonstrates knowledge of national standards of practice, incorporates these into practice, and holds self and others accountable for practicing according to these standards.
o Attends continuing education, reviews literature, and uses current research findings to improve and promote continual development of knowledge. Incorporates new learning into practice.
o Provides education to rehab staff.
o Assists in the revision of departmental policies and procedures related to cognition, behavior and psychological programming.
o Takes leadership role in program development related to psychology, behavior, or cognition.

Qualifications

Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from accredited program.
Post-doctoral fellowship in neuropsychology preferred.
Licensure/Certification
Regulatory
Current valid licensure as a Psychologist in the State of NC. Must be able to obtain privileges as a member of the Cone Health Allied Health Professional Staff.

Experience
Fellowship in clinical psychology.
Neuropsychology experience preferred. Two years clinical practice in brain injury and/or stroke rehabilitation preferred. Experience in clinical counseling or rehabilitation psychology preferred.
