Essential Function: The Security Officer patrols medical center buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intruders. Monitors conduct of visitors on medical center premises and may be called upon to confront unauthorized persons for questioning, as needed. Reports safety and/or fire hazards or security violations.
Responds courteously to inquiries for advice or assistance from medical center personnel, doctors, and visitors. Escorts personnel to parking lots and medical center buildings.
Provides restraints of psychiatric patients as needed. Assists medical center personnel with combative patients as requested.
Participates in investigations of security incidents. Maintains records and prepares incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities.
Secures and/or unlocks offices and facilities as required. Secures patient valuables or lost
and found articles. Maintains records of items received and returned.
Morgue responsibilities include assisting Funeral Homes, Medical Examiners, Medic Units, and floors with deceased persons.
Controls parking and traffic flow. Enforces parking regulations.Qualifications:
A. Minimum twenty-one (21) years of age and valid North Carolina Drivers License.
B. Education and Training: High school diploma or equivalent.
C. Experience: Minimum six months in security or Law Enforcement and BLET certificationpreferred.

Environmental and Special Demands:
Must frequently patrol, on foot, internal and external areas of buildings and grounds. External patrol often performed during adverse weather conditions. Should be of unquestionable character and conduct. Must be physically fit and capable of restraining disturbed or intoxicated patients or visitors as required. Close contact with staff, patients and-visitors requires good grooming, courteous attitude, ability to exercise good judgment, often in on-the-spot decisions. Must have knowledge of medical center policies and procedures and physical layout of buildings and grounds. Those individuals called upon to secure the building during 11-7 shift will be required to secure3rd floor as directed by Security Supervisor in Cooperation with Engineering Director.

Interrelationships: Contact with all departments during security patrols and investigation of incidents; contact with patients when receiving valuab1es, investigating incidents involving loss of personal property; contact with visitors at visitors desk, giving directions or information, discussing parking violations, etc., contact with law enforcement agencies to request assistance, obtain or provide information.
