Performs patient access functions for hospital by using computer system, printer, copier, calculator, fax machine, Medifax terminal, directories, and other departmental reference material. Collects patient demographic, insurance, and limited medical information when presenting for service. Obtains signatures for consent and authorization. Prints registration
documents and distributes as required per hospital policy. Assists patients, their families, and
visitors with questions and directions. Collects payments on patient accounts. Contacts insurance companies for certification and/or authorization of inpatient or observation admissions.
Communicates continuously with insurance companies, patients, families, visitors and staff. Provides back-up for Switchboard Operator during breaks and at night. Performs communications function for the hospital in the event of a disaster. Participates in training and orientation of new employees.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Customer service training preferred.
Minimum Experience, Knowledge, Skill, and Ability
Patient Registrar 1:
Beginning level handles routine work and problems. Work is mostly clerical and administrative. Experience working in hospital registration or in a billing office, medical office, or as a receptionist preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Good skills in using office
equipment and computer systems with accurate data entry. Effective communication and
customer service skills. Good attention to detail. Basic math ability.
Patient Registrar 2:
Handles moderately complex to complex problems. Three (3) years of experience working in a billing office, medical office, or as a receptionist, including at least one (1) year working in hospital registration. Good knowledge of medical terminology. Excellent skills in using office equipment and computer systems with accurate data entry. Effective communication and customer service skills. Good analytical and problem-solving skills. Good attention to detail. Basic math ability.
Weekend and/or Holiday Rotation may be required.
Rotating Shifts may be required.
