We are located in Greenville, NC which is located in the heart of North Carolinas coastal plain, just a short drive from the famous Outer Banks beaches, the Blue Ridge Mountains and the attractions in the Triangle area (Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill). We are currently recruiting for an Education Nurse Specialist. This will be for the Outpatient Centers - Patient Testing Center, Sleep Center, Wound Center, Pain Center, and Radiology Nursing.
The Educational Nurse Specialist will interface with all staff members, Staff Development Assistants/Unit Educators, Managers, Education Specialist, Administrator and other ENSs. She/He will utilize research-based information to impact staff development and develop a conceptual framework for education.
She/he will also utilize and incorporate quality data and organizational/divisional learning needs assessments into educational programs, which will assist with increase in staff knowledge and improvement of patient outcomes.
She/He will assist and collaborate with Nursing leadership, Education Department and clinical services concerning the development and implementation of house-wide and unit specific educational offerings for all staff members.
She/He will also provide input to the Managers and Administrators concerning performance behaviors of staff members as needed.
Responsibilities
Collaborates with leadership and staff to develop educational conceptual framework for staff development.
Collaborates with leadership and staff to identify learning needs.
Analyzes organizational learning needs to determine staff educational processes.
Develops, implements and evaluates staff learning activities based on identified needs, standards of care and scope of practice.
Identifies/provides appropriate resources to meet learning needs.
Obtains continuing education credit for designated programs.
Incorporates age specific knowledge and skills to provide service appropriate to the age of the patient.
Creates an environment conductive to learning.
Tracks staff compliance with selected learning activities.
Uses outcome evaluation process to evaluate learning activities
Coordinates the development and evaluation of orientation processes for new personnel including PBDS activities.
Designs and evaluates competency base orientation documents specific for initial orientation and ongoing competency for staff.
Serves as a resource for staff development assistant in the implementation process of unit based orientation.
Responsible for developing and evaluating staff development plans.
Assists staff in complying with and tracks requirements of accrediting agencies and regulatory requirements.
Facilitates and tracks the process for competency 0and Category II validation.
Coordinates and evaluates high/risk - low/volume activities, skills fairs.
Coordinates and tracks annual CPR requirements and advance life support requirements for staff specific to populations served.
Develops innovative and cost effective methods to traditional teaching approaches.
Applies for RN CE contact hours.
Plans, presents and evaluates centralized and decentralized educational activities as clinical experts.
Promotes the development and assists in the evaluation of unit educators and unit preceptors/clinical coaches.
Provides consultation to leadership and staff using communication and change theories.
Serves as a resource for leadership, interdisciplinary health care team and staff in development, implementation and evaluation of standards of care and policies and procedures in area of specialization.
Serves as a consultation for program planning, area agencies, subsidiaries and other VMC departments.
Collaborates with other educational agencies, e.g. VMC education department, EAHEC, Schools of Nursing and Medicine for program planning.
Contributes to staff professional development through assistance with clinical ladder, specialty certifications and other staff development tracks, e.g. education, quality improvement, and management.
Contributes to career development of health care providers, e.g. Homegrown, RN to BSN to MSN.
Functions as a participant and/or consultant for nursing and hospital interdisciplinary committees.
Assesses and identifies researchable clinical practice.
Disseminates pertinent research developments, current information and theories in field of specialization.
Integrates relevant research into learning activities to promote positive patient outcomes.
Integrates evidence base research findings to support and advance nursing practice and nursing staff development.
Evaluates impact of various learning activities on patient care, clinical outcomes, and clinical practice.
Participates in professional organizations.
Advances clinical expertise through conference attendance, literature reviews and research activities.
Maintains professional network among colleagues.
Participates in quality programs and committees.
Identifies and reports quality issues through data sources.
Utilizes quality outcomes data to assist with planning/development learning activities and strategies to improve patient care delivery/outcomes.
Incorporates outcomes of learning endeavors and patient outcome data into divisional and hospital QI.
Promotes recruitment and retention of employees.
Participates in marketing of learning activities for Health Care Team.
Coordinates or participates in the marketing of the student experiences, externship and nurse residency programs.
Develops and implements programs or projects which facilitate the attainment of corporate goals.
Demonstrates skills of delegation and supervision of Educational Support staff (Staff Development Assistants and Unit Educators).
Assists Administrator in maintaining job description and reviewing clinical competency and continuing education needs for maintaining professional credentials of Staff Development Assistant.
Contributes to development and evaluation of Educational Support staff.
Supports Educational Support Staff by facilitating learning needs and identification of needed resources.
Mentors and commends Educational Support Staff.
Promotes Educational Support Staff employee satisfaction.
Minimum Requirements
Master's Degree in nursing or a related specialty (Required) with concentration in education preferred.
Current RN Licensure In North Carolina.
At least 5 years experience in clinical practice with evidence of clinical knowledge, leadership and teaching abilities
Preferred Requirements
Two additional years experience in area of specialty.
