Vidant Medical Center is a fully accredited, 900+ bed regional referral facility encompassing a Level-1 Trauma Center and extensive inpatient and outpatient services including intensive and intermediate care, pediatrics, bariatrics, obstetrics, and gynecology, surgery, pain management and psychiatry.
The Infection Preventionist promotes patient safety through leadership as an integral part of interdisciplinary teams. IP's influence health care teams to adopt and sustain safe practices though effective teamwork and communication. IP's conduct surveillance for healthcare associated infections, submit data to CDC and hospital leadership, conduct construction & environmental surveillance, assists in development of policies & procedures, provides infection control/prevention education and reports communicable diseases to the Public Health Departments.
Provides surveillance for healthcare associated infections, surveillance and reporting of communicable diseases, environmental and construction surveillance and submits information to appropriate agency/data base/internal distribution.
Utilizes data from surveillance and research of literature to lead clinicians in implementation of best practices to reduce infections and actively serves on those committees relevant to good IC practices.
Conducts investigations and research of literature to drive improvement and incorporates evidence based research into infection control initiatives.
Collaborates in the development, delivery, and evaluation of educational programs or tools that relate to infection prevention, infection control, and epidemiology during orientation and other training for hospital staff.
Serves as resource/consultant in policy & procedure development and review, hospital and unit based priorities by networking with variety of disciplines and service areas for infection control improvement practices.
Keeps self professionally current through educational offerings, teleconferences, journal reading and attending meetings.
Performs those other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
College Degree (4yrs)BS in Nursing, Medical Technology or related Allied Health Field.
Infection Control Courses Completed and Certification in Infection Control within 3-4 years of employment.
At least 2 years of experience as a staff nurse or related allied health professional in a hospital setting and prefer 1 year of leadership.
Teaching skills are essential.
Prior experience in infection control or epidemiology will be given preference.
Infection Control Education (State Approved Course) preferred
