Is responsible for all aspects of operation of the specified section. Performs laboratory testing, teaching/orientation of students and employees, and supervises other employees engaged in performing all types of laboratory procedures. Keeps the assigned department/section operating efficiently and effectively at all times. Assists other Section Supervisors, Laboratory Manager, and Pathologist as needed. Assumes responsibilities for supervision of routine testing in all areas of laboratory department during the absence of other Supervisors and Laboratory Manager. Communicates problems and progress to Laboratory Manager and other Supervisors. Performs other duties as assigned. Work schedule includes all shifts and some weekends. Reports to Laboratory Manager.
Minimum Education: Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology or appropriate related fields, preferred OR completion of a structured two year program satisfying requirements for an associate in applied science degree.
Minimum Experience: Four years total experience as a registered Medical Technologist and Chemistry is preferred. Training, education, or experience in area of specialty is desirable. OR five years experience as a registered Medical Laboratory Technician.
Licences/Certification: Medical Technologist by the ASCP or equivalent registry. Registry/Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or equivalent certifying agency. Must have passed a Medical Technologist Certification examination such as AMT, HEW, or equivalent.
