Job Description

Manages the identification, analysis and assessment of loss in potential cases and claims. Determines the methods of managing risk. Assists departments in identifying and correcting environmental conditions and work practices that could result in injuries or claims. Maintains comprehensive inspection and reporting systems to capture, investigate and evaluate conditions conducive to loss and safety. Knows safety regulations and responsibilities. Manages Worker's Compensation claims in collaboration with Claims Specialist. Provides services with consideration of the recipient's needs. Develops loss prevention and loss control programs. Serves as a resource to internal and external customers regarding risk management issues, safety, and Worker's Compensation. Uses designated computer programs and is able to generate reports and information as needed. Counsels departments and professional staff in sensitive situations involving actual or potential claims. Communicates activities to administration, staff, physicians, legal counsel, the insurance company and others as needed. Maintains comprehensive database related to potential and actual claims. Compiles and analyzes monthly, quarterly and annual reports as required.

RN with a minimum of five years experience in healthcare required. Bachelor's Degree required. Experience in loss prevention, claims management and investigation, and safety management preferred. Knowledge and understanding of The Joint Commission Environment of Care Standards, HCFA Standards, OSHA, EPA, Worker's Compensation, and NFPA Workplace Standards preferred.

To develop and maintain a highly educated registered nursing staff to meet the present and future demands of the nursing profession, employees who begin employment with FirstHealth of the Carolinas in a position that requires a registered nurse must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree within five (5) years of their employment date.
