Central Regional Hospital, located in Butner, NC, serves the central region of the state and is one of three state-operated psychiatric hospitals serving children, adolescents and adults. We are currently recruiting for multiple positions/shifts on the following units:

Adult Admissions Unit (AAU)- Focus on Wellness not on Illness:
AAU serves patients ages 18-64 presenting with multiple diagnoses including primary psychiatric as well as substance abuse and medical diagnoses. The goal of AAU is stabilization so patients can return to living in the community as independently as possible.

Geriatrics Service Unit GSU:
GSU serves patients 65 and older with primary psychiatric diagnoses which may include Alzheimer's/Dementia who exhibit behaviors such as agitation, aggression and confusion in addition to medical diagnoses.

The Registered Nurse position (performing in the Charge Nurse role) will supervise the tasks and duties of other Professional Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and Healthcare Technicians (Certified Nursing Assistant). The Charge Nurse is responsible for completion of shift assignments, medication administration, participation on treatment teams and all other required duties within the scope of the role and licensure.

Our shifts are 8 hour shifts: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.; 3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. - 7:30 a.m., including rotating weekends and holidays as scheduled. Pay is competitive and we offer shift differential for 2nd and 3rd shifts and weekends. These positions are eligible for the full state benefits including health insurance and retirement.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Qualified applicants must exhibit and application clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following:

Experience with Medical or Surgical Nursing;
Basic knowledge of psychiatric illness and how they impact medical conditions;
Ability to perform skills associated with administration of Oxygen, IV fluid/IV medication administration, dressing changes, CVAD, EKG's, telemetry and eligibility for ACLS certification;
Ability to communication effectively in written and oral form;
Ability to write and speak English proficiently.
Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team including social workers, psychiatrists, medical doctors, rehabilitation, psychologists, etc.
Ability to interact with patients as well as their families in a respectful manner in coordination of patient care and education.
Ability to de-escalate angry and sometimes aggressive patients by means of therapeutic communication in a professional manner.
Ability to maintain a safe milieu for patients.
Ability to delegate and supervise patient care delivery by healthcare technicians, LPN's, and other RN's when performing charge nurse role.
Ability to follow CRH policy, apply changes to policy and ensure HCT's, LPN's and RN's are following these policies.
Ability to follow direction from Unit Nurse Director, Unit Manager and shift charge nurse.
Ability to identify and implement psychiatric and nursing interventions.
Ability to complete nursing care clinical competencies.
Physical requirements will be discussed in detail during the interview process but include the ability to pass CRP, protective interventions (NCVI) and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Management prefers experience in a medical psychiatric setting but will train. Preference for ACLS certification but will train.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.

*Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus (effective March 1, 2018):
A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week). An employee who works at least 20 hours but less than 30 hours per week is not eligible for a sign-on bonus. An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if: (1) the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date); (2) the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency, (3) or DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees. This Sign-on Bonus is contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of hire.
