Cherry Hospital, a State Psychiatric Hospital serving the eastern region of North Carolina, is recruiting for an Occupational Therapy Assistant II. This skilled position works under the direction of an Occupational Therapist in planning, evaluating, and developing treatment programs, group activities, and 1:1 interventions to enhance the patient's physical, developmental and psychosocial functioning. This position is primarily assigned to the Hope & Wellness Center, a psycho-social rehabilitation program, and will conduct group activities in daily living skills, self-care skills, pre-vocational socialization, and fine/gross motor communication and sensory modulation. Minimal work is required with adaptive equipment and physical rehabilitation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
*Considerable knowledge of occupational therapy principles, techniques, methods, modalities and their proper application.
*General knowledge of functional anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and physical and mental conditions of patients.
*Skill in the use of adaptive devices for patient population.
*Skill in conducting standard assessments and treatments which are applicable to special area or unit.
*Skill in evaluating patient progress through musculature evaluation, goal attainments and other general patient progress.
*Skill in writing patient progress notes.
*Ability to work effectively with patients of various ages, developmental and functional abilities, medical conditions, mental competence and physical disabilities.
*Ability to be CPI certified
*Physical ability to withstand light to moderate physical activity.
*Most of the work involved in the Hope & Wellness Center is considered light to moderate physical exertion. However, when transporting and assisting individuals with physical challenges, moderate to maximum effort may be required to carry out the task. In some cases, it may take the maximum effort of two employees to meet the client's needs.
Experience working in a mental health setting.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Licensed to practice as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in the State of North Carolina and two years of related experience.
